Interested in learning something new this summer? Here at BYC we have a wide range of courses for all ages and abilities, including complete beginners. We don’t just stop at sailing either- you can check out our powerboating, windsurfing and SUP courses as well. These courses are open to everyone, whether you are a BYC member or not, so don’t hesitate to sign up today.

ADULT SAILING COURSES

 RYA Adult Sailing Level 1 Dinghy

A 2-day weekend course introducing you to sailing, covering all you need to know to get afloat under supervision

RYA Adult Sailing Level 2 Dinghy

2-day weekend course setting out the foundations of sailing. All sailing will be done in a dinghy such as our Laser Bahias, RS Fevas, Picos or Lasers. You will learn rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.

RYA Adult Level 3 Dinghy

An weekend improver course designed to build confidence is intended to make the transition easier for those wishing to progress to the more advanced RYA modules.

ADULT WINDSURFING COURSES

 RYA Start Windsurfing Course

A 2-day introductory course covering the basics of windsurfing, comprising some classroom theory, use of a dryland simulator rig and approximately 8 hours on the water.

 

ADULT POWERBOATING COURSES

 RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course

Provides the skills and knowledge needed by a competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

RYA Safety Boat Course

Provides the skills needed to act as a safety boat for racing or training events, covering rescue techniques and race management such as mark laying.

YOUTH SAILING COURSES at BYC

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme – Stage 1&2

Covers launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing, improving sailing skills on all points of sail, tacking, gybing, ropework, and collision avoidance.

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme – Stage 3&4

Provides the skills to become a more capable and confident sailor after completing RYA Stage 1 and 2.

 RYA Youth Sailing Scheme – Stage 4 and Start Racing

Covers the next stage after Stage 3, providing skills to become a more confident sailor. Start Racing introduces fundamentals of getting off the start line and around the course, and basic racing skills.

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme – Stage 2

Aimed at students who have completed Stage 1. Covers improved sailing skills on all points of sail, tacking, gybing, ropework, and collision avoidance.

RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Club Racing (intermediate)

Improves racing technique and knowledge for club- level racing, focusing on boat handling, speed, and developing race strategy based on conditions. To enrol you need to be Youth Stage 3 and Start Racing qualified or demonstrate equivalent standard.

RS Feva Racing Training with RYA Level 3 Race Coach, Chris Penny

RS Feva Beginners Race Training with Chris Penney

For Sailors RYA Level 4 or currently racing
