Why Sea Swim?

Did you know sea swimming has unique health benefits? Here are just a few perks of taking a dip in the open water:

Increased Happiness

Other hormones that stimulate the thyroid have been shown to be increased by more than 50 per cent after swimming. This has all kinds of benefits on regulating weight, body temperature, muscle strength but also can improve your mood, making you both healthier and happier.

Boosted Immune System and Sleep

Sea swimming in colder water can reduce the potential over-production of certain hormones that can contribute to impaired immunity, which may make your more body more robust and resistant to infection. Sea swimming can also result in a natural increase in the levels of a certain hormone which may help to improve the quality of your sleep.

Long-term Health Benefits

Preventing and managing long-term health conditions, Sea swimming can make other systems of your body more efficient and more effective. This can lead to improving your body’s defensive response to damage and therefore potentially reducing your risk of some medical conditions.

What to expect

Swim Course: The swim course varies from 200 to 400 metres, depending on the tide. Swim as far as you’re comfortable with—whether just a few metres from shore or multiple laps. Safety Measures: A comprehensive risk assessment and safety procedures are in place. Prior to swimming, all participants will receive a safety briefing. Onshore: All swimmers must submit an annual swimming registration form before entering the water. Swimmers must wear a wristband, which will be provided upon registration. After swimming, return your wristband to an onshore team member. Hot showers, changing rooms, toilets, and the club house are available for your convenience. In the Water: High-visibility swimming caps and tow floats are required. Safety support is provided by a RIB (rescue boat) manned by BYC rescue team members, with additional support from volunteers in kayaks and paddle boards.
