Centenary Weekend Celebrations ~ 22-23 June

Join us to celebrate 100 years of Ballyholme Yacht Club on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June for our Centenary Weekend. 

Two action-packed days of sailing – including the Centenary Regatta, supported by Wave + Wake – and plenty of live music and entertainment.


Saturday

Schedule:

  • 11:00am: BYC Regatta Club Races (youth) with Prize-giving and BBQ
  • 1:00pm–4:00pm:  Centenary Regatta
  • 2:00pm: Bouncy Castle
  • 3:00pm (approx): Afternoon Tea with Entertainment
  • 7:30pm–late: Entertainment (ticketed)

BYC Regatta Club

11:00am: Saturday morning will kick off with the junior regatta for sailors from 6+, comprising two quick windward leeward races with the first warning signal at 11:24am. The races will be followed by prize-giving and BBQ. Registration is organised through Dolphins & Sharks.


1:00pm–4:00pm: Be part of history and be sure to get your boat rigged and ready to race for this very special event. Please see here for Sailing Instructions. For the Regatta Club’s Sailing Instructions, see here.

The Centenary Regatta is kindly supported by Wave + Wake , a family-owned, Northern Irish business supplying surf sports equipment online. Afternoon Tea & Entertainment

3:00pm (approx): We will also host our annual regatta afternoon tea, where you can enjoy performances by Lucy Robinson, County Down’s sultry-voiced singer songwriter, and BYC’s very own Tara Winton.

Centenary ‘Disco’

7:30pm–late: Dance the night away like it was 1919 with DJ Benson, but not before boosting your energy reserves with stylish ‘street food’ provided by Wolf & Devour, Northern Ireland’s newest and most innovative food truck service. You can expect a feast of 3 street food style boxes: Pulled Pork Sliders, Indian Curry and Chilli Beef Nachos . Children get Hotdog & Chips – and everyone gets ice cream to finish, served from ‘The Icecream Bicycle’!

Sunday

Schedule:

  • 9:30am onwards: Ladies’ Race
  • 12:00 noon–1:00pm: Stand Up Paddleboard Workshop (booking required)
  • 1:00–2:00pm: Stand Up Paddleboard Races 
  • 2:00pm: Cash BBQ
  • Sunday Points Racing – first start at 1436hrs for the small dinghy fleet
  • 2:30-5:00pm – Live music

Ladies’ Race

9:30am onwards: The Ladies’ Race will begin early Sunday morning organised by Charlie Winton who will match up newer sailors with experienced helms. All levels welcome. Briefing at 9.30am with first gun at 10.30am.

SUP Workshop & Races

Swimming12:00 noon–1:00pm:  SUPHub NI are running a Stand Up Paddle Board Workshop, open to a maximum of six participants (aged 16+) so be sure to book early!

  • Ballyholme Members – £20/person
  • Non-members – £25/person

Pre-booking required at SubHub NI

The workshop will be followed (1:00-2:00pm approx) by a SUP Race across the bay for workshop participants as well as any members with their own SUP boards. Suggested donation £5.

Lunchtime BBQ

2:00pm: BBQ (pay as you go) featuring BYC’s world-renowned hearty Burger / Sausage Baps, with salads, etc.

Sunday Points Racing

Our regular Sunday Points racing.

Afternoon Entertainment

2:30-5:00pm: For those not racing, we have a lazy afternoon of live music with noted traditional musician, David Lennon, and his troop.
