Scheduled Dates 2026

Join us at BYC for our Monday evening sea swim sessions, a perfect way to unwind, enjoy the stunning coastal surroundings and connect with a welcoming community of swimmers.
Timings and Safety
Each session begins with a mandatory safety briefing at 18:50, followed by a prompt start in the water at 19:00. All participants must attend the briefing before entering the water, as it outlines key safety procedures and ensures everyone is prepared for the conditions on the day.
Before swimming, all participants — including swimmers, kayakers, and paddle boarders — must complete the appropriate registration process. BYC full adult members are required to submit an annual swimming registration form, while non-members must register for each individual session they attend. Upon arrival, swimmers will be issued a wristband, which must be worn during the session and returned afterwards to a member of the onshore team.
The swim course typically ranges between 200 and 400 metres, depending on tidal conditions. You are free to swim at your own pace and distance, whether that’s a short dip close to shore or several laps of the course.
Safety is at the heart of every session. All swimmers are required to wear a high-visibility swim cap and use a tow float while in the water. Support is provided by a dedicated BYC rescue team operating a RIB (rescue boat), alongside experienced volunteers in kayaks and on paddle boards, ensuring comprehensive coverage throughout the swim. Swimmers must be 16+ to participate.
Facilities
Onshore, full facilities are available for your comfort and convenience, including hot showers, changing rooms, toilets, and access to the clubhouse — making it easy to refresh and relax after your swim.
Sea swim sessions take place on Monday evenings during May, June, and September for BYC full adult members. During July and August, sessions move to Thursday evenings and are open to both members and visitors.
Please note that all swimmers must have completed and submitted their registration form before entering the water, and spaces for each session may be limited. Attendance is coordinated through the BYC Sea Swimming WhatsApp group, where members receive updates and important information. In the event of poor weather or unsafe conditions, cancellations will be communicated via the BYC Facebook page and the WhatsApp group.
If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please contact us at admin@ballyholme.com or reach out through the BYC Facebook page.
We look forward to welcoming you to the water.
