Jodi’s Giants began while little Jodi was receiving treatment for liver cancer.
As a family the Tomalins were overwhelmed by the support they received not only from friends and family but from these 3 incredible local charities.
The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, Cancer Fund for Children and Angel Wishes all helped Jodi and his family through the toughest 18 months they could ever have imagined. They received a 2 day therapeutic break at the wonderful Daisy Lodge in Newcastle and there were toys galore to keep Jodi always smiling, thankfully little brother Max was always in the charities thoughts too, never missing out!
On a broader scale, these charities have also paid for 2 extra isolation rooms on the children’s cancer ward meaning, many families can stay in Northern Ireland for their child’s treatment and not have to head to the UK mainland. They also paid £300,000 towards a children’s MRI scanner and every year they fund vital support roles such as play therapists, teachers and psychologist’s all within the The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. The Tomalins will endeavour to support these charities and so far this year Jodi’s Giants has raised £45,465 and don’t want to stop there, get your tickets booked for what is going to be a fantastic evening of food and dancing.
From Kellie Gunning on Action Cancer
‘Having been diagnosed with breast cancer at 33, a week before our son’s 1st birthday, my world was turned upside down. As a local charity, Action Cancer have helped me and my family come to terms with my diagnosis through professional support and therapeutic services. They provide an invaluable service of not only support, but also raising awareness to detect and prevent cancers’.
