Latest update BYC Return to Water Programme

The NI Executive have officially ratified the implementation of their Stage 1 programme to ease the lock down. This included a statement allowing us to engage in “some water activities”. The RYANI have sought clarification as to what exactly that included but were unable to get an answer initially, however this afternoon SportNI have clearly specified that this includes sailing, power boating, kayaking, windsurfing, SUP and sea swimming.

The Club’s Return to Water Team has been actively engaged in the writing and implementation of policies and procedures since the announcement, that will allow us to partially return to open water activity safely and as soon as possible. These policies and procedures have now been adopted by the Executive Officers following recommendation from Team. This guidance is now available on the Club website.

I and indeed your Executive Officers fully appreciate that everyone wants to get back to some form of normality, but unfortunately, I don’t envisage this for some time. In the interim we will be embarking on a start towards this new normality with small steps, starting this Sunday 24th May at 0900 hrs with the opening of our grounds and slipways.  I must reiterate the guidance from the RYANI, who are correctly advocating patience to allow the necessary actions as required to be taken so that the environment is as safe as it can be for our Members, Staff and visitors.

As you can imagine this is all very new and indeed unprecedented, with information and guidance being disseminated on a daily basis from various Departments and Governing Authorities. All items which have particular relevance to our activities at the Club will be analysed and considered and as such our guidance is likely to continue to evolve.

I would like to conclude by saying that The Return to Water Team and Executive Committee are working hard for you and I hope that you can be patient with us as we move forward.
