ILCA 6 Youth European Championships startline

The presitigious ILCA 6 Youth European Championships was held at Ballyholme Yacht Club between the 27 July and 3 of August this year bringing together the city of Bangor, the sailing community and of course the BYC member volunteers. With close to 400 competitors coming from almost 40 nations, it was the largest and most internationally diverse sailing competition to ever be hosted in Northern Ireland, and certainly one of the largest to be held on the island of Ireland. As well as the hard work of the volunteers, the event could not have been so successful if it were not for sponsors and local businesses putting their weight behind the event.

Clean Regatta - Platinum awardUnder the leadership of BYC member Charlie Winton, The ILCA Youth European Championship was run as a Clean Regatta and we were delighted to receive the Platinum Level Clean Regattas Certificate for the championship from Sailors for the Sea.

Program Manager, Emily Conklin gave this feedback:  "I am so impressed with all you’ve done and we are honored to award the Ballyholme Yacht Club with our Platinum Level Clean Regattas Certificate for the 2024 ILCA 6 European Championship. We love to see the Best Practices in action ... I especially was interested in some of your Green Boating techniques and loved your bonus “every bit helps” section. Thank you so much for your dedication to sustainability through the Clean Regattas program.

Keep up the great work! We look forward to working with you in the future and continuing your legacy of environmental stewardship."
