RYA Level 3 + 4 Youth Sailing Course – Summer 2025

Get ready for an exciting summer of sailing with our RYA Level 3 & 4 Youth Sailing Courses at Ballyholme Yacht Club! This course is designed for young sailors aged 8-16 who are ready to build on their skills and tackle more advanced sailing techniques. Whether your child is looking to refine their boat handling, increase their confidence on the water, or begin exploring the world of racing, this course offers the perfect progression for them.

Course Duration:
5 Days, Monday to Friday

9.30am – 4.30pm

What Your Child Will Learn:

RYA Level 3:

Improved boat handling and control in a variety of conditions

Techniques for sailing more efficiently, including advanced tacking and gybing

Increased confidence in sailing solo or as part of a crew

Advanced understanding of wind and weather conditions and how they affect sailing

Introduction to higher-level manoeuvres and skills, including handling stronger winds

RYA Level 4:

Introduction to racing strategies, including starts, marks, and finishes

How to optimise boat speed and positioning during races

Techniques for adjusting sail trim and boat speed in varying conditions

Understanding the rules of racing and learning how to apply them in competitive settings

Who is it for?
The RYA Level 3 & 4 course is perfect for young sailors aged 8-16 who have already completed the RYA Level 1 and 2 courses (or have equivalent experience) and are ready to improve their skills.

This course is designed to take your child from basic sailing techniques to more advanced boat handling and introduces them to the world of racing in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

Picos, Quests & Qubes (Boat hire and equipment use included in tickets or if you have your own boat please select ticket applicable)

Timings

09:30 – Arrival on site

16:30 – Wrapping up after an action-packed day

Sailors to pack

Appropriate Sailing kit (wetsuit, spray top, boots, buoyancy aid, swimming costume, towel)

If you dont have sailing kit don’t worry we have you covered! Please bring a spare pair of trainers you don’t mind getting wet!

(for safety reasons no wellies, crocs or flip flops please! pack your swimming costume and towel)

Snacks, drinks, and a packed lunch to fuel you throughout the day

Warm clothes for before and after the training

Pen and notepad for any notes, racing watch and cap (if applicable)

Pro Tips

Hydrate and snack up! (We’ll be on the water, so you’ll want to stay fuelled up.)

Even if the skies are cloudy, keep the sunblock and cap on hand—you’ll thank us later.

Changing rooms and showers are available to freshen up.
