The RYA Adult Level 1 Dinghy Sailing Course is perfect for beginners looking to get into the exciting world of sailing. In this entry-level course, you’ll learn the basics of sailing, covering essential skills such as boat handling, safety procedures, and essential terminology. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a relaxing day on the water or gain the skills to take your sailing further, this course provides the perfect foundation.

What You Will Learn:

Introduction to Sailing: Understand the fundamental principles of sailing and how a dinghy works.

Rigging and Launching: Learn how to rig a dinghy and launch safely.

Basic Sailing Techniques: Discover how to sail in both directions, including tacking and gybing.

Wind Awareness: Gain a better understanding of how wind affects your boat and how to use it to your advantage.

Safety Procedures: Learn essential safety protocols, including how to capsize and right a dinghy safely.

Who is this course for?

The RYA Adult Level 1 Dinghy Sailing Course is designed for complete beginners or those with little previous sailing experience. No prior knowledge is necessary — just a willingness to learn and enjoy being on the water.

Sailors to pack

Appropriate Sailing kit (wetsuit, spray top, boots, buoyancy aid, swimming costume, towel)

If you don’t have sailing kit don’t worry we have you covered! Please bring a spare pair of trainers you don’t mind getting wet!

(for safety reasons no wellies, crocs or flip flops please! pack your swimming costume and towel)

Snacks, drinks, and a packed lunch to fuel you throughout the day

Warm clothes for before and after the training

Pen and notepad for any notes

Pro Tips

Even if the skies are cloudy, keep the sunblock and cap on hand—you’ll thank us later.

Changing rooms and showers are available to freshen up.
