Ballyholme Yacht Club is excited to host the 6th race in the 2025 Irish SUP Race Series! Set against the stunning backdrop of Bangor, Co. Down, we’re thrilled to host paddlers from all across the country for what promises to be an unforgettable day on the water. Whether you’re competing in the Men’s or Women’s All-Round divisions or pushing your limits in the Race Board categories, there’s a challenge here for everyone. With a mix of friendly competition, coastal scenery, and warm hospitality, BYC is proud to welcome both seasoned racers and new faces to this vibrant stop on the SUP calendar. Let’s hit the water and make it a race to remember!

Changing facilities and toilets are available on site, tea & coffee will be provided following the race to warm up ahead of prize giving!

Race information

Safety Briefing commences 11am, first category start 11.30am

This will be a coastal race hosted in Ballyholme Bay and Belfast Lough. The courses will be agreed on the morning of the race subject to weather conditions. The race route will include turns and will have a standing start on the slipway, with boards beside you.

There will be dedicated safety boats on the water during the race.

Race Categories

Men’s / Women’s race boards – a 10km – 15km route for anyone on a board longer than 12ft, this includes inflatable and composite boards

Men’s / Women’s all round boards – a 5km route for boards less that 12ft, including inflatable and composite boards

Entry fee £20 non-Members (£15 BYC Members)

Prizes will be provided for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Men’s / Women’s in each category

Race Rules

  • Participants must be over the age of 16
  • All participants will be required to sign out before going on the water and sign in on return.
  • Personal Flotation device must be worn at all times during the race, (life jacket / buoyance aid or PFD) Waist belt PDFs are permitted.
  • All participants must wear a leash
  • All kit must be seaworthy and will be checked by the race team ahead of going afloat
  • Participants must be confident in their ability to paddle the distance for their class, be able to self-rescue (gat back on the board should they fall off) and be able to swim.
  • The direction of the event staff must be followed, their word is final.
