Level 1: Start Sailing

Ready to set sail? This introductory course is designed to teach you the essentials of sailing, giving you the skills to get afloat with confidence. Whether you’re a complete beginner or just looking to brush up on your sailing basics, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

No Prior Experience Needed: This course is perfect for those with no previous sailing experience, so you can jump right in and start learning the ropes!

Level 2: Basic Skills

Build on the foundation you’ve started with Level 1. This course focuses on enhancing your sailing skills, helping you become more confident and independent on the water. You'll develop your abilities to sail in a range of conditions while gaining the knowledge to make key decisions in different scenarios.

Completion of RYA Level 1

Level 3: Better Sailing

Course Overview:


Take your sailing to the next level with Level 3! This course is designed to consolidate the skills you've learned and introduce you to more advanced techniques. Through focused coaching and practice, you'll gain the confidence to sail more efficiently and handle a variety of situations on the water.

Prerequisite Knowledge:
Completion of RYA Level 2

Social Sailing

Join Us for Social Sailing!

  • Prerequisite: Must have BYC club membership & completion of RYA Level 2
  • Timings: Saturdays 2PM - 4PM / Wednesday evenings in the summer 6.30PM - 8.30PM
  • No boat? No problem! Boat hire is available for booking via the office, please contact directly to confirm use of a club boat.
  • Rescue Cover Provided

Come out and enjoy a relaxed and fun sailing experience with fellow members. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or a beginner, it’s the perfect opportunity to get on the water, share some laughs, and enjoy the company of others. After sailing, unwind at the bar with a refreshing drink and great conversation. It’s all about enjoying the sail, the sea, and the community – we look forward to seeing you there!

Whether you're looking to sharpen your skills or challenge your friends, each race is a fresh opportunity to compete, push your limits, and experience the adrenaline rush of sailing at full speed. With tactical decisions to make, strategic mark roundings, and the pursuit of victory, every race is an adventure. Don't miss out on the action – come race, have fun, and join us for Mug of the Day in the bar afterwards!

Class Associations

Class Associations play an important role in promoting and organising competitive sailing. These associations offer sailors a platform for events, races, and championships that bring together sailors from all regional, national and international level. They help maintain the integrity of class rules, ensuring fair and exciting competition while fostering a strong sense of community among sailors, volunteers, coaches and race officials. Looking to embrace the racing pathway? Join your class association, offering opportunities for growth, camaraderie, and a shared passion for sailing.

Wind & Waves, Entry level Sailing Programme for 25-35 year olds

  • Assumed Knowledge: None
  • Duration: x5 Thursday Evenings - 6pm - 9pm

Our Wind & Waves programme is the ideal way for young adults aged 25-35 to dive into the world of sailing. Whether you're looking to try a new hobby with friends, meet new people, or simply enjoy the freedom of the water, this fun and social programme offers something for everyone. Perfect for beginners or those looking to brush up on their skills, you'll learn the fundamentals of sailing while earning your sailing qualifications. Join us for a relaxed, supportive experience that combines adventure, socialising, and the thrill of the water!

Women on Water - Wednesday Evenings

  • Assumed Knowledge: None
  • Age: 18+
  • Duration: x4 Wednesday Evenings from 6.30pm - 9pm

Our Women on Water programme at Ballyholme offers a range of exciting watersport activities, from stand-up paddleboarding to dinghy sailing. Designed for women aged 18+, this programme aims to inspire and empower more women to get out on the water.

Whether you're newbie to the sport or looking to refine your skills, there are plenty of ways to get involved! You’ll have the opportunity to connect with fellow participants and learn from our experienced instructors, the perfect opportunity to make new friends, stay fit, and feel great while enjoying the water.

Our programme runs from May to August for a programme designed to inspire, support, and empower you every step of the way.

All activities include full support from our instructors and members, as well as access to all necessary equipment, including wetsuits, spray tops, and bouncy aid.

Sessions run on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm onwards with drinks and nibbles in the lounge afterwards.

Adult Race Training & Class Camps

Our Race Training Camps are designed to support your skills and develop your racing journey. Whether you're aiming to refine your techniques or prepare for upcoming competitions, these camps provide expert coaching, tailored drills, and hands-on experience to help you develop the skills you need to succeed on the racecourse. You’ll focus on key aspects of racing, such as starts, mark roundings, tactics, boat handling, and more, all while gaining personalised support from the coach. Perfect for sailors looking to boost confidence and sharpen your performance, giving you the tools to compete with the best. Join us and elevate your racing game.
