Ballyholme Yacht Club (BYC) is seeking an exceptional Chief Sailing Instructor for the period 3rd April 2017 – 29th September 2017 for our RYA Training Centre.
We have a busy calendar of youth and adult courses planned for the summer. This year we also have a number of schools and colleges already signed up for both weekly courses and sailing sports club sessions during May, June and September. Initiatives such as the RYA Push the Boat Out are used to try and encourage as many people as possible to try the sport. Our training fleet includes Laser Bahias, RS Feva’s, Laser Picos and this year will be introducing 6 Optimist type dinghies for our small sailors and Dolphins and Sharks.
Over the last five years, BYC have become a major sail training centre in Northern Ireland and are one of the few clubs to be able to offer training throughout the year – ashore, afloat and also race coaching. We are a very open and friendly club with people come to us from across Northern Ireland – we even have visitors from the UK, Ireland and beyond.
You will be responsible for providing the dinghy sailing course program afloat. We are lucky to have a large number of dinghy and assistant instructors for you to develop into a team to work throughout the summer. You will be strongly supported by our Training Sub Committee which includes other senior instructors, power boat instructors and two Coach Assessors, There may be other sailing opportunities for you if you want – dinghy and keelboat racing/coaching, working with our cadets etc
The applicant must be self motivated, hard working with good team management skills and an ability to deliver.
The successful candidate will be an experienced RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor with valid current first Aid certificate.
Main Responsibilities and aims will include:
- Delivering RYA training courses for adults and children
- Maintaining operational and safety standards
- New BYC Instructor induction, appraisal and development.
- Help build BYC membership and increase participation in club sailing and racing.
- Help organise and deliver on-water sessions for Corporate days.
- Basic boat maintenance / safety checks
- Maintain RYA status at BYC
The successful applicant will be responsible to the BYC RYA Principal and Honorary Secretary, and will start on 3rd April until 29th September 2017.
