RYA Youth- Stage 1&2

RYA Youth- Stage 1&2

This course provides an introduction to sailing for anyone aged 8 yrs upwards.
No prior knowledge is needed.

Stage 1
A basic understanding of how a boat sailing, with some experience of steering and handling the boat.
Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing.

Stage 2
A range of sailing skills and knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor
Basic sailing skills, rope work, collision avoidance

On one of the days we will try to sail to Crawfordsburn beach or to Ballyholme picnic.
There will also be games on and off the water to keep everyone entertained and having fun all week!

achieving the standard required for each stage is dependent on attaining certain competencies-it’s not a given that every child will progress at the same rate and achieve one or more levels in 5 days. Your child’s progress and next steps can be discussed with the Senior Instructor at the end of the course

What to Bring
– Towel
– Wetsuit boots or an old pair of trainers
– Suncream
– Lunch & snacks (please do not pack nuts or any nut products for your child)
-Water or juice
– Swimming costume for under your wetsuit
We will provide wetsuits and life jackets.
Please ensure that everything is labelled so that you don’t lose anything.

Cancellation

In the unlikely event the course is under subscribed, the club reserves the right to cancel your booking and refund your payment in full, with a minimum of 7 days’ notice.
